Taking care of your mental, physical, and emotional health often feels like a luxury rather than a necessity. Yet, scheduling self care and fun activities can significantly improve your overall wellbeing, helping you to feel calmer, more confident and energised day to day.
When you intentionally set aside time for yourself, you create space to recharge, reduce stress, and boost happiness. This month's quick read blog explores practical ways to build self care and enjoyable moments into your routine, helping you feel balanced and energized.
Why Scheduling Self Care Matters
We live in a very fast paced world, and life’s demands can quickly fill every moment, leaving little time for rest or enjoyment. Without a plan, self care often slips to the bottom of your to-do list and the back of our mind.
And let's face it, you will never find the time for self care, but you can make the time! Therefor, scheduling self care activities ensures they become a priority, not an afterthought which helps you:
Maintain consistent habits that support mental and physical health
Prevent burnout by balancing work and relaxation
Build resilience to face daily challenges with a clearer mind
For example, blocking 10 minutes each morning on your day off for meditation can set a calm tone for the day. Similarly, planning a weekly walk in nature or a hobby session can refresh your mind and body. Which is especially important when you know you have a tough week ahead.

Types of Self Care and Fun Activities to Schedule
Self care is not one-size-fits-all. It includes anything that nurtures your wellbeing. Here are some categories and examples to consider:
Mental Wellbeing
Mindfulness practices like meditation, deep breathing, or guided imagery
Reading books or articles that inspire or educate
Creative outlets such as writing, drawing, or playing music
Physical Wellbeing
Exercise routines including yoga, jogging, or dancing
Restorative activities like stretching or taking a warm bath
Healthy meal preparation focusing on nourishing foods
Emotional Wellbeing
Connecting with loved ones through calls or meetups
Engaging in hobbies that bring joy and relaxation
Practicing gratitude by noting positive moments daily
Scheduling a mix of these activities ensures a balanced approach to wellbeing.
How to Build a Self Care Schedule That Works
Creating a schedule that fits your life requires thought and flexibility. To get started be honest and open minded and use simple steps to begin:
1. Assess Your Current Routine
You know your routine best, and only you know what is realistic for your lifestyle, so let's look at how you spend your time now. Identify pockets where you can insert self care without feeling overwhelmed, or frustrated. Even 10 to 15 minutes can make a difference!
2. Prioritise Activities That Feel Enjoyable
Self care should not feel like a chore, so choose activities that genuinely interest you. For example, if you dislike running, try a dance class or a nature walk instead. And if the self care task isn't exciting your soul, choose something else instead of wasting that time and scrapping the idea completely.
3. Use Tools to Stay Accountable
Set reminders on your phone or use a planner to block time for self care. Treat these appointments with the same respect as work meetings or tasks! When you give your Self Care routine the same respect as we give other priorities, we are subconsciously reaffirming "I matter".
4. Start Small and Build Gradually
Begin with one or two mini activities that don't need a huge commitment, planning or prep. As these become habits, add more! Managing small, but consistent self care fun prevents burnout and keeps motivation high.
5. Be Flexible and Adjust as Needed
Life changes, and so will your schedule, so if something isn’t working, tweak it. The goal is to create a sustainable routine. Many of my clients have the 'All or Nothing' attitude which really doesn't help you grow, but can be over come to improve your mindset.
Consider this, if you dropped your phone on the ground, you wouldn't stomp on it 10 times to make sure it was broken. You would pick it up, dust it off, and carry on as best you could. And it's exactly the same with self care.

Benefits You Can Expect
When you regularly schedule self care and fun activities, you may notice:
Improved mood and reduced anxiety
Better sleep quality
Increased energy and focus
Stronger relationships
Greater sense of control over your life
These benefits build over time and like anything, the more we actively practice doing it, the easier it becomes. So we can look forward to a life that truly prioritises our health and happiness in the most meaningful ways.
