Positive affirmations, are a wonderful way of healing emotionally. It takes a little courage, because for many of us we don’t practice speaking to ourselves or about ourselves in a positive and loving way.
Many people enjoy meditating with positive affirmations and simply breathing them through the body, or repeating them in the mind as a mantra and allowing the words and feelings to develop. Others practice saying them out loud, sometimes even in front of a mirror. I don’t believe in set rules, I don’t really believe in a wrong way to use them, I do believe in finding what’s right for you as an individual.
So for those who don’t know, affirmations come from the word affirm, so when using them we are affirming the words - and more than that, the meaning or essence of the words. And in my opinion, when we are allowing them to be said or thought, we are also allowing them to be true.
This is where it can become challenging. How long has it been since you gave yourself a compliment? And I’m not talking about showing off, I mean, when was the last time you were really kind to yourself emotionally?
What kind of language do you use when describing yourself, your actions or choices to others?
Do you consider yourself a good person?
How easy do you find it forgiving yourself for simple mistakes?
Most women I know are incredibly good at giving support to our friends or family, but not so good at giving it to themselves. What begins to sometimes happen when using positive affirmations, is that we feel like we are lying to ourselves. It can make us feel uneasy, sometimes guilty or undeserving, because we really don’t want to, or, are unused to thinking of ourselves in a loving way.
The more you practice saying, thinking and feeling positive things about yourself the easier it becomes. And it really does take practice. If we have spent a long time criticizing our self, our actions or our choices, then it really does take conscious effort to firstly become aware when we are doing this, followed by a conscious effort to re phrase it. Practicing be kind to yourself takes courage.
But you know what? Courage is like a muscle, it grows stronger the more you use it.
Below is a list of Affirmations that I find not only beautiful, but incredibly powerful! That’s not to say I’ve found them easy, there have been times I’ve found them incredibly challenging and become upset and resistant with myself.
I’ve shed many tears, felt like I was getting nowhere, and yet over time , I’ve experienced progress in many ways, becoming more accepting of myself, more confident in my beliefs and forgiving of my mistakes. And you can too.
Growth comes from the challenges in life, not from doing the same thing we have always done. Practice with affirmations, and experiment using different styles, and if nothing else just be curious.

The past has no power over me anymore
I embrace the rhythm and the flowing of my own heart.
All that I need comes to me at the right time and place in this life.
I am deeply fulfilled with who I am.
